WHAT IS A GUITAR SETUP?

We tend to explain a guitar setup as effectively the same process of having your car serviced. It’s about checking that all the elements of your guitar are set up appropriately to get the best out of your instrument. Over time, the geometry of your instrument changes due to a variety of different factors which can make it hard to play. Suitable guitar setup will improve the playability of your instrument and make it play more comfortably.

WHAT TYPES OF GUITAR SETUPS ARE AVAILABLE?

Fret Levelling

GUITAR TRUSS ROD ADJUSTMENT

Guitar necks have a difficult time. They are continually under tension from the strings, and due to elements like humidity, they can effectively move. At Ackworth Guitar Setups, we know a strong guitar neck is essential to get the best out of the instrument. That’s why the AGS team will adjust the truss rod so that the guitar neck is under the correct amount of tension and not displaying too much back bow or forward bow.

GUITAR ACTION

Guitar action is the distance between the top of your frets and the bottom of your strings. Guitar manufacturers will all specify their perceived appropriate action for their guitars. We will then work on your instrument to get the correct action for your instrument.

GUITAR INTONATION

Guitar intonation refers to the pitch accuracy – the degree to which the notes are formed in tune, rather than flat or sharp. At AGS we will set up your guitar with state of the art tuners to dial in the correct intonation.

FIRST TIME GUITAR SETUP

Just like taking your car in for a service even if it’s a relatively new vehicle, your guitar needs the same care. If you have never had your guitar set up, or it has been a long time since your instrument had some professional attention, then get in touch with the team.

“I couldn’t recommend highly enough!”

Stuck in lockdown I bought a guitar but it needed work setting up. Had a very informative tutorial over video chat with AGS about adjusting the bridge and truss rod myself.

Within a couple of days I received a custom made gauge and some better strings that they’d sent out just after our call.

Now it plays a lot better, easier to fret and sounds a lot nicer too.

Above and beyond what I expected.
